Shop: Rational Beauty Collaboration

Under the auspices of her studio, Rational Beauty, Jeanette Abbink has created award-winning editorial design for such magazines as Dwell (where she was the founding creative director), American Craft, and Pan and the Dream, and books for publishers including Rizzoli, Aperture, Abrams, Monacelli, and Clarkson Potter. For our collaboration, Jeanette Abbink explored the flora and fauna of the American Southwest, traversing the desert landscapes with her team and collecting images. Abbink found inspiration from German Graphic Designer Otl Aicher and Italian Modernist Enzo Mari, incorporating their stylized and simplified graphic approach to her own work. The result is a series of playfully modern limited edition giclee prints, in celebration of the Southwest, printed on a luxurious archival rag paper. The Rational Beauty collaboration is the first art print by the award-winning designer.

Please enjoy our rare offerings of limited edition giclee prints & art and design books designed by Rational Beauty.

About Issue 3, The Moon:

“We have always looked up to her, our Moon. She is a goddess. The object of our craziest dreams and desires, and of our wildest fantasies...

In 1969, Apollo 11, NASA’s most famous achievement, landed astronauts on the Moon. It remains the only extraterrestrial body that humans have ever visited. There hasn’t been a manned mission to the moon since 1972 but there are plans to send men again, and women this time. It is rarely mentioned that it is a woman, Margaret Hamilton, the lead software engineer of the Apollo Project who wrote — by hand — the code that was used to take humanity to the Moon. Our ‘Trip to the Moon’ issue celebrates the 50th anniversary of this mind-blowing event. We had achieved the impossible.

We also give tribute to Bauhaus, born 100 years ago this year. With its strict geometric shapes and use of metallic materials, it continues to be Modernism’s most influential movement.

...but it is by observing the stars that we are reminded of the miracle of nature, our existence. Let’s continue to honor, observe and learn more about the fragile balancing act that is life on earth... “ —PAN
